RUSSIAN SUITE 4:
ARKHANGELSK
Arkhangelsk is a remote place
the wind from the White Sea swirls
snowflakes around the airport asphalt
We drive into town in the polar night
in a black smoky 70s Volga
with threadbare seats
Factory ruins soon piles up in the dark
Industrial society collapsed
The broken buildings that gave work for one generation
will now poisoning the surroundings for centuries
It´s not only Russia
The same industrial ruins can be found in Detroit,
as well as Duisburg and Manchester
Forgotten are the ideas,
Modern society should not only give us work
We should also be free and equal
and the concept of justice
had a meaning for us all
