THE SEA
I grew up by the sea
It was just laying out there,
huge water masses fading away in the distance
It was always windy,
sometimes mild breezes, that soon became furious winds,
sometimes aggressive storms, and also hurricanes
struck onto the house
with full force

There was always traffic outside,
small shippers, container vessels and sometimes large tankers,
on their way to the refinery in the fjord
They could be seen only at night,
enormous constructions
moving silently in the darkness beyond our windows
The control bridge was always lit
but we never saw anyone there,
as if the ships found their way
themselves

Our conditions then;
the enormous sea,
the raging winds,
mans perfected monumental technology
where the voice of one single person is so small
and fragile

It is necessary
to keep the flame
burning
